The Los Angeles area is regrouping this morning from a magnitude 4.4 earthquake that hit the city just before 6:30am.

The earthquake had about a 6 mile radius, and the shaking could be felt in areas as far away as Palmdale and Orange County. Although no serious damage is evident at the moment, Mayor Eric Garcetti released this statement:

“As a precaution, personnel from all 106 fire stations have deployed into their local communities to survey the neighborhood and critical infrastructure such as hospitals and communications facilities.”

The area has experienced six smaller aftershocks as of 10am local time, and more are expected throughout the day. Seismologist Robert Graves told the Los Angeles Times that the area had not seen an earthquake with this kind of magnitude since the earthquake in Chino Hills in 2008 which had a magnitude of 5.5.

The earthquake was caught on camera. The morning news team from KTLA had their broadcast interrupted, and the anchors even ended up climbing under their desk. You can check out the video below.
