Stan Lee Talks Marvels Next Heroes And Female Superheroes

Sam Maggs

Staff Writer

Marvel is on a roll right now. With Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige helming the comic giant’s movie magic, the massive studio has four films left as part of its Phase Two initiative (the next of which is Thor: The Dark World, premiering November 8th), before moving on to Phase Three with Ant-Man in 2015. But studio head (and IRL superhero) Stan Lee dropped some hints about famous comic characters that might be making appearances in future Marvel films – or get their very own franchises – in a recent chat with Too Fab. “Right now, the people at Marvel are looking through our whole list of candidates and wondering which ones are we going to use now," said Stan. "They are going to do the Black Panther. They are going to use Doctor Strange. They are going to do Ant-Man. They are going to do the Guardians of the Galaxy. And they'll probably do the Inhumans." Though Black Panther and Doctor Strange had been previously rumoured, this is the first time anyone from the Marvel camp has publically spoken about the potential of an Inhumans film. The Inhumans are a race of experimental aliens created by the Kree, meant to be used in battle against their enemy, the shape-shifting Skrulls. Given the direction Marvel is going (with the inclusion of Thanos during the credits for The Avengers and the upcoming Guardians); it seems entirely possible that Marvel would be looking to do another space-based film. Also in the Marvel rumor mill is talk of Katee Sackhoff starring as female superhero legend Captain Marvel. When asked about making a movie for a lady superhero, Stan said, “Well, probably at one time they’ll make a movie of the Black Widow. The thing is, women like these movies as much as the guys, so we don’t have to knock ourselves out to find a female.” After Thor 2 on November 8th, you can look forward to Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th, 2014; Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1st, 2014; Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st, 2015; and Ant-Man on July 31st, 2015.
