Stephen Hawking Answers The Hard Questions For His Reddit AMA

Noted physicist, Stephen Hawking, is answering fans’ burning questions in his Reddit AMA. Specifically questions about artificial intelligence.

Yes, you read that right.

Stephen Hawking, yes, THE Stephen Hawking (as if I meant any other!) is to do an AMA on Reddit.com.

The physicist, now 73, is set to answer a select number of questions submitted to him before August 4, with those most voted for by site users being the ones he’ll give detailed, likely analytical responses to.

Be warned, Hawking is a sass-master if ever there was one (if you’ve seen The Big Bang Theory, you’ll know what I mean) so anyone looking to submit a question, think long and hard about it.

Hawking, whose life story was dramatized last year in the Oscar winning The Theory Of Everything, is in particular looking for questions relating to artificial intelligence, of which he has a keen interest.

In the AMA announcement, he said:

I signed an open letter earlier this year imploring researchers to balance the benefits of AI with the risks. The letter acknowledges that AI might one day help eradicate disease and poverty, but it also puts the onus on scientists at the forefront of this technology to keep the human factor front and center of their innovations. I’m part of a campaign enabled by Nokia and hope you will join the conversation on http://www.wired.com/maketechhuman. Learn more about my foundation here: http://stephenhawkingfoundation.org.
