Any concert or festival is bound to leave you with a stiff neck and feet so sore you won’t forget about the show for days to come, or you could just go to a Steve Aoki concert and go home with a broken neck. No kidding, the superstar DJ is being sued by fan that broke her neck attending one of his shows in May 2012 . Allegedly, the incident occurred when Aoki jumped off the stage to land in a pool raft and crowd surf.
Brittany Hickman has been very public about the incident, sharing with 10News, “I was trapped underneath the pool raft because they threw it out right where I was standing. My friends told me he landed on top of the pool raft, hit me on top of the head and I got knocked over, “Your life can be changed so much for someone’s reckless actions.”
Although he is a god in the DJ-ing world, just like the average man, Steve Aoki is not intentionally going around trying to break his fans' necks. In a statement sent out on behalf of Aoki, he noted that “I would never want anyone to get hurt at any of my shows and feel badly that someone has,” and has left the rest up to the law saying, “at this time I have been advised by my attorneys to not speak about this as it’s going to trial.”
The official statement released by Aoki’s team doesn’t add much, as Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego is also involved, This matter arises out of an incident which occurred at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, three years ago. In addition to Mr. Aoki, Ms. Hickman is also suing Hard Rock. Trial in this matter is scheduled for August 28, 2015 before Judge Pressman of the San Diego Superior Court. Because of the ongoing litigation and the pending trial date it would not be appropriate for us to respond to your inquiry at this time or permit an interview.
This is all just adding to the DJ’s woes since he’s been forced to undergo vocal surgery he’s had to cancel multiple concerts, disappointing fans and to make things a little more awkward, according to LA Weekly 8 people have been injured at a free concert Aoki threw in downtown LA.
Because it really is all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and for Steve Aoki it hasn’t hit hilarious and we strongly doubt it will.
