Apple software fans should mark August 16 in their iPhones. That is when JOBS, the Steve Jobs biopic, will make its silver screen debut in the United States.
JOBS will focus on the highs and lows of the celebrated Apple co-creator’s life; ranging from his decision to drop out of college and building the first pieces of Apple technology with fellow co-founder Steve Wozniak to his firing from his own company and the purchase of Pixar and his eventual return to Apple.
Ashton Kutcher portrays the technology legend while comedian Josh Gad is Wozniak. Rounding out the cast is Dermot Mulroney, J.K. Simmons, Matthew Modine, James Wood and Lesley Ann Warren.
JOBS premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival followed by a theatrical release on April 19, a nod to the anniversary of Apple’s founding. However, Open Road Films, the film’s distributor, pulled it from April and transferred it over to the August 16th weekend.
The biopic directed by Joshua Michael Stern will face some heavy competition as Kick-Ass 2 and the highly anticipated ensemble drama The Butler will also open on the same weekend.
In addition, Entertainment Weekly also revealed that JOBS will also face potential hits from box office hopefuls including Disney-Pixar’s Planes, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and We’re the Millers, which will make their debuts a week before the biopic’s opening weekend.
