Steve Zahn will be donning a rather fetching motion capture bodysuit, as he joins the ranks on War of the Planet of the Apes.
The character actor has joined the cast of Matt Reeves’ third film in the Apes franchise and will be playing a new ape character. The role is likely to see Zahn flex different acting muscles to his usual ‘comedy sidekick’ stereotype.
Also appearing in the film is Andy Serkis, whose stunning performance as Caesar has had many campaigning for him to get some form of Oscar recognition. The human side of the film sees Woody Harrelson and Gabriel Chavarria (who can be seen in the upcoming Lowrider movie) join the cast.
While actual plot details for War are pretty scarce, director Reeves said last year:
The notion of what we’re after with the third is to sort of continue that trajectory and see how he becomes a seminal figure in ape history. He almost becomes sort of like an ape Moses. A mythic status… We’re trying to play out those themes and continue to sort of explore it in this universe. Exploring human nature under the guise of apes.
Andy Serkis has also hinted that there may be more than just three films in the Ape series. War of the Planet of the Apes is currently slated for release on July 24 2017.
