Dean Richards Staff Writer Steven Moffat is simultaneously the most loved and the most hated Doctor Who showrunner there has ever been, and in his most recent interview with Broadcast Magazine, he certainly brings some honour to that title. Despite the fact that he has done a brilliant job of keeping people interested in the show, there are a few issues some fans are not happy with. One such issue is that Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul Mcgann and, as announced quite early on, Christopher Eccleston won't be making an appearance in the 50th anniversary special. Another point of contention is the footage that was shown to a select audience at San Diego Comic Con, which has still not reached the rest of the fan base, despite loose promises that were made. On that last topic, the showrunner definitely didn't earn him any popularity with fans who were already upset about all of it when he spoke to Broadcast Magazine: "Comic Con has a history of screening exclusive material," he explained in the interview. "I understand if people are feeling eager – but don’t you think it would have been a little bit early for everyone to see it? We were creating a buzz about it among the people who’d slept out all night for it." That last sentence especially seems to have struck a chord, because does that imply that the rest of the fandom didn't deserve to see that footage? Does it imply that the "real" fans all paid a whole lot of money to attend an event somewhere in the US? That is probably not how he meant it, but that is definitely how disgruntled fans might interpret it. Still, there were also plenty of reasons to think that Moffat does know exactly what he's doing, because as he always does, he managed to throw in another couple of stories that will make fans even more excited about Capaldi becoming the 12th Doctor: "Peter's already a bit of a national treasure," he said. "As most people have realised, the moment you think of him in the part, you find it hard to think of anyone else." "Every time I was at a TV do and Peter was there, he'd come over to talk about Doctor Who and he was the first to congratulate Matt. I started thinking - what if that genius actor might actually say 'yes?'" And, although he might have some trouble understanding why those fans are a little upset, he is perfectly able to imagine what the average Matt Smith fan wants to hear: "I sympathise with the kids who've grown up with Matt Smith," he said. "It's like when you move home and your mum and dad say, 'You'll make new friends.’ I always resented the intruder but then after a while, I forgot there had been one before him." However, I don’t believe that Whovians will ever be able to forget Matt Smith. While Smith himself seems to think otherwise, there is no way Whovians will ever forget about the amazing 11th Doctor, and perhaps that is something we should just focus on for now: Matt still has two episodes to go, and it seems like they are going to be pretty amazing! On that topic, it is already November now, which means the 50th Anniversary is only 3 weeks away! The 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, will be released on the 23rd of November. It will be broadcast on BBC 1 and in selected cinemas across the UK, which is when we will finally see whether Moffat was right to get us so excited! http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
