CBS's new Supergirl series took flight a little sooner than expected when high resolution copies of the pilot were leaked to file-sharing torrent sites earlier today (May 22).
According to Variety, more than 120,000 copies were downloaded by 9 am EST. Pirate-tracking firm Excipio confirmed the video was made available without watermarks and in full 1080p HD quality. The high quality of the leaked pilot is illustrated in the still below.
Supergirl, starring Glee alum Melissa Benoist, isn't set to debut until November and will anchor CBS's Monday night lineup. CBS has yet to comment on the leak. But just last week, the network was talking up the series as their new lineup's centerpiece at their Upfront presentation. The series is a clear attempt to court a younger audience and cash in on the superhero craze currently sweeping across pop culture. It will be interesting to see how Supergirl compares to the CW's other DC offerings, The Flash and Arrow.
The Supergirl leak falls right on the heels of the four-episode Game of Thrones leak that had fans and the internet wondering what the heck was up with HBO's security protocols. Networks have aired series pilots in advance before to generate buzz and publicity but a leak this early could prove to go either way; if the show isn't that great, Supergirl could crash and burn.
