Attention DC fans: The time has come! After a full season of distant silhouettes, artistic boot shots, and adorable familial instant-messages, it looks like we're finally going to meet the mysterious man in red and blue!
Earlier today, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg expressed his excitement about the impending appearance of Supergirl's famous cousin.
“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” stated Kreisberg. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season [and] we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
And it's clear that the fans are just as eager! Already, speculation and fandom wishlists have begun to spring up on message boards and in comment sections--a large majority of which seem to demand the return of Tom Welling, who portrayed Clark Kent in the CW's hit show Smallville. Thus far, however, there have been no definitive casting announcements.
In the past, producers of Supergirl have been adamant about establishing Kara as the hero of her own story. This made the introduction of the Man of Steel a little tricky--how do you integrate such a well-known hero as a side character without pulling focus from the show's title heroine? However, producers have always been open to the idea of Superman eventually making an appearance.
Stated Kreisberg in an interview earlier this year, "It will always be a dream of ours to be able to have Clark or Superman on the show. Hopefully with continued success, that opportunity will one day present itself.”
Dreams really do come true! Now all we can do is wait (rather impatiently) for the premiere of season 2, where we'll be treated to our first glimpse of the previously elusive Man of Steel. Is it fall yet?
We've got our wishlist actor in mind, but who do you want to see sporting that red cape? Hit the comments and let us know!
