Speculation has run rampant about what the Darkness holds in store for the Winchesters in Supernatural‘s upcoming 11th season, but one of the favorite fan theories may have just gotten just a little bit less “theory” and a little more spoiler-y thanks to Supernatural star Jared Padalecki and a little chat he had with EW recently:
“I think [the Darkness] certainly opens the door for Lucifer and/or God to pop up. We’re certainly going back to that and going a bit more biblical and having our take on the writings that didn’t make it into the Bible. Since we know God’s a scribe, we may have to invite him along for the ride.”
While the hope that Mark Pellegrino will return as Lucifer has filled the rumor mill since the darkness arrived at the end of Season 10, questions of God’s whereabouts and his true identity have run rampant since Season 4. Many in the fandom remain convinced that Chuck Shirley, author of the Supernatural books, played by fandom favorite Rob Benedict, is God.
Will this season finally be the big reveal? Is Chuck actually God? Either way, the return of the biblical theme is certainly, in itself, something to look forward to. Biblical themes dominated Supernatural in Season 4 as well as Season 5, which is considered to be one of the series’ most critically acclaimed seasons.
The Winchesters will return, with or without God, in Supernatural when season 11 premieres on October 7th, 2015 at 9 PM on The CW,
