News emerged yesterday that, tragically, Caleb Bankston, former Survivor contestant and fiancé of Colton Cumbie, had died at age 26 in a railway accident.  His death sent shockwaves through the Survivor community. Bankston came into the show last year in the 27th season, Blood Vs Water, with Cumbie, who had previously competed in the show a few years earlier.  While Cumbie was portrayed as a villain on the show, Caleb became a quick fan-favorite, due to his laid back and lovable attitude.  The couple revealed earlier this year, on Survivor Oz, that they were to marry in October, and had plans to start a family after Colton had graduated. Although he was unable to win the game, coming in at eighth place and becoming a member of the jury, he dramatically changed the game pre-merge, when he flipped on his alliance to vote out Brad Culpepper, former NFL player, who was calling the shots at the time. In the last twenty-four hours, there has been a large amount of support for his family and tweets of grief from former contestants.  Tribe member Vytas Baskauskas tweeted, “one of the most kind, loving and authentic people I’ve ever met.  Thank you for sharing the light with us.” While winner of Caleb’s season Tyson Apostol tweeted, “Today we lost one of the kindest most chill dudes ever to grace this earth.  Caleb, we love and miss you.” Bankston was one of few LGBT contestants to compete over twenty-eight seasons, and is only the third Survivor contestant to pass away after Jenn Lyon, who competed on Survivor: Palau, and B.B. Anderson who competed on the shows first season in Borneo. Keep Up With PopWrapped On The Web!
