Tameca Jones’ “Hot and Bothered” is the perfect mix of old and contemporary, with jazzy rhythms and enough energy to make it a perfect fit on radio.
Her vibe immediately reminds me of the R&B songstresses who paved the way for the genre (Patti LaBelle, The Supremes) and, sure enough, Jones credits the legendary Tina Turner as one of her inspirations. Even with the obvious influences, though, h
er vocals remain vibrant and unique.
Jones has been cited as a “rising star” down South in Austin, and anyone in that area can check her out at the Black Fret Black Gala this Friday (Dec. 4).
Look out for her debut EP next year as well.
Until then, check out Hot and Bothered” below, and check out her official website.
