Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz responded to Donald Trump’s recent comments on abortion, saying that Trump cannot seriously understand issues and is just making a scene for more publicity.

“Once again Donald Trump has demonstrated that he hasn’t serious thought through the issues,” Cruz said in a statement in response to Trump’s comments. “He’ll say anything to get attention.”

Trump said Wednesday that should abortion be outlawed in the United States, women who still go through with it after the law goes into action should face punishment.

However, after receiving backlash from many different groups, even anti-abortion groups, Trump took back his comments and said that the doctors who do the procedure should be punished, and that women and the unborn children are the victims of that crime.

Cruz and Trump are in a T as the primary race comes to a close. GOP front-runner Trump is close to locking up the remaining delegates to win the Republican nomination.

The argument goes back to when a recent Super PAC advertisement featuring naked photos of Melania Trump was released. In response, Trump accused Cruz of setting up the advertisement, and said that the naked photos of his wife were part of a cover shoot for GQ.

After that, a National Enquirer story was published, claiming that Ted Cruz has had multiple affairs on his wife, and Cruz then turned around and turned the tables, saying the story was not true and that Trump planted the story.

Now, Cruz is speaking out against Trump’s harsh comments regarding outlawing abortion and is countering them with his own views on the topic.

“On the important issue of the sanctity of life, what’s far too often neglected is that being pro-life is not simply about the unborn child’ it’s also about the mother and creating a culture that respects her and embraces life,” Cruz said. “Of course, we shouldn’t be talking about punishing women; we should affirm their dignity and the incredible gift they have to bring life into the world.”
