Serena Williams has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. She began her tennis career in 1995 at just 14 years of age after being prompted by her father, former tennis player, Richard Williams, to seek a professional career in the sport. Tennis is one of the top commentator sports and brings in millions annually.

Richard Williams began coaching Serena and her sister Venus at just four and a half years old, taking them to the public tennis courts of Compton, California to sharpen their skills. Training to become a tennis sensation in the gang-riddled streets of Compton was not an easy feat, but the girls and their father were determined in their endeavors. Serena has since gone on to dominate the world of tennis, becoming the highest paid female athlete while winning 69 single titles, 21 grand slams and six US opens, just to name a few achievements.

Serena is typically not one to have her personal business in the public spotlight, although she has come out of her shell a lot this past year. In 2016, we were all surprised to see Serena “teaching us how to twerk” on a video released by Self Magazine. The 35-year-old tennis sensation stood in front of an unknown mansion and guided viewers through the necessary steps of twerking, which you can see below:

We thought nothing could top that on Serena’s 2016 bucket list, but we were wrong! A few days ago, she announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Serena would post pictures of him every now and again, but most still didn’t know she was dating anyone post-Drake and, thus, was overwhelmed with happiness for the couple! — although there were a few negative comments as to why Serena was “jumping the gun” to marry the 33-year-old techie. It didn’t take very much digging to find out who exactly Serena’s future hubby is.

Ohanian is a Brooklyn native and graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005 when he and his co-founder Steve Huffman founded Reddit — a social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. He was named in Crain’s 40 under 40 list for business. Ohanian asked for Serena’s hand in marriage while they were vacationing in Rome.

The details as to how the couple came together are still unclear, but that’s neither here nor there. The future Mrs. Ohanian is obviously excited, and we’re sure she cannot wait to begin planning her big day!
