Real Housewives Of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and husband Joe Giudice will both serve time in prison
after receiving sentencing Thursday October 2nd. In 2013 the couple was charged on a 39 count indictment that included bankruptcy fraud and attempt to commit mail and wire fraud, reportedly hiding almost $1 million worth of earnings/assets. Before learning of his sentencing, Joe Giudice read a personal letter aloud, saying "I stand here humiliated before the court and my family and society." Joe continued, "I disgraced many people, including my wife and four daughters. I take full responsibility for my actions. I promise to be a better person."
Shortly after, the business owner and famous husband was sentenced to serve 41 months in prison.
The judge stated, "What you did in this case doesn't define you as a man." Additionally Joe was also ordered to pay over $400,000 in restitution fees. Later that afternoon, Teresa was sentenced to serve 15 months in prison for the fraud charges, however the judge announced beforehand that if both were sentenced with prison time Teresa will serve first, allowing Joe to care for their four young daughters.
The housewife and writer will be required to turn herself over on January 5th 2015, just after the holidays. Joe may also face deportation (an Italian citizen) but that will most likely remain undetermined until after his time is served. While it must be an extremely emotional day for the Giudice's, at least now a decision has been made and they can have the opportunity to adequately care for their children. The couple is set to sit down for an exclusive interview on Watch What Happens Live
Monday at 9 p.m. with host Andy Cohen.
