Thanos is the frightening dark presence who used some of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as pawns. We were able to catch a glimpse of him in the first Avengers film, and he played a much larger role in the Guardians of the Galaxy, wherein his adopted daughters fought on each side.
In the Marvel Universe Thanos may arguably be the most important character, as he's the catalyst for much of what is going on. But despite all this he won't be showing up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
But before you complain, there is good reason for this, after all despite being the ultimate villains in their own franchises both Voldemort and Sauron were visibly absent through both their series.
“I wouldn't look too hard in that movie for Thanos,” Marvel Cinematic Universe Kevin Feige said, and then he added "the next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, 'Oh, that's why they've been teasing this villain for five years!'”
Which translates to MCU having really big plans for Thanos when the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy face off against him in Avengers: Infinity Wars.
Feige also talked about what we would expect from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.“There've been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we'll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie,” he said.
Expect a new plethora of heroes then! But sadly Feige chose not to reveal who will be the villain for the upcoming film.
He did share tidbits about other movies on the franchise like the Spiderman reboot and Thor: Ragnarok. “It's going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man film as has ever been made. But it's a Peter Parker story and has more opportunity to be focused on the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school.” When speaking about Thor: Ragnarok he said: “It's going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we've got new characters that will show how big we're swinging on this. And we have a Hulk.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theatres May 5, 2017. The highly anticipated Spiderman reboot can be seen on the big screen starting July 28, 2017. Thor: Ragnarok, originally set for a summer 2017 release date, has been pushed back to November 3, 2017. The heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will face off against Thanos at last when Avengers: Infinity Wars Part One is released on May 4, 2018.
