As we prepare to welcome Community back to our screens in the New Year, we are also preparing ourselves to savour each and every moment that Troy gives us, before his real life alter ego Donald Glover says farewell to the series. TV Line stopped by the set of Community a few days after Glover filmed his last scene and spoke to the other cast members about what it was like now that the was gone, and how they would write his character Troy, out. “I really, really, really, miss him” confessed Yvette Nicole Brown. “You wonder what there could be that could break up Troy and Abed or make Troy leave Greendale, but what it is makes sense” Joel McHale went on to add that Troy’s departure “is not just sprung on you” in the season’s fifth episode. “There’s a build up to it, and there’s a really good, really funny reason why he leaves.” McHale went on to say, “It’s not a ‘happy ending’ per se. Abed is losing his best friend and that’s very sad. But within that sad thing happening, Dan Harmon puts in lightning bolts of jokes and it’s great” When it comes to Abed, Danny Pudi says, “The nice things about [Donald’s final episode] is that the writers did a really good job of doing justice to both Troy and Troy and Abed.” He then added something to give us Human Beings to hold on to, a tiny sliver of hope that one day, maybe, we might see Troy return to Greendale. “There is a little bit of hope that maybe Donald will come back,” Pudi shared. “There’s always a chance. That’s the thing about our show: I never really believe anything is done anymore. Community has given me the best gift: the perspective that nothing is dead until it’s dead. So, there’s a window — a tiny, tiny window…” Never say never. Community returns for its fifth season, January 2, on NBC.
