The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist – What We Know So Far

James Wan’s highly anticipated horror film is coming this year, so we go over what we know about the film and the real case that inspired it.

While we wait on a trailer for the sequel to James Wan’s The Conjuring, which is currently wrapping up filming in London, there have been a few plot details that recently emerged regarding the future of the popular horror film series. First, the astute actor Patrick Wilson (who plays real life paranormal-investigator Ed Warren) spoke with EW last month about what fans can expect for the sequel, which he promised amps up the scares. “James has pushed himself and pushed himself. A month ago we shot this one scene, and I said to him, ‘Four movies with you, man, and this was the creepiest scene I’ve ever done.’ It was so freaky and bizarre and strange — just get ready!”

Wilson went on to elaborate (slightly) about the plot while trying to keep the major surprises for when the film is actually released June 10th, by New Line Cinema. Wilson explained, “Without giving anything away, he wouldn’t settle for the film ending with me giving an exorcism and then the witch goes away. We can’t do that again, so we don’t … I love that they pushed the skepticism of it, I love that they pushed the Warrens’ involvement, and it’s awesome.” The actor continued, “And we stole from a couple real situations where the Warrens were confronted by skeptics, because James is real conscious of that. He knows that fans who want to believe will see the movies, but he knows there are a lot of skeptics out there, so why not show that? We probably had more fun shooting it than the first one. I love it; it was fantastic.”

The premise for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist centers on the actual 1970’s exorcism of two sisters (the film will focus more on one) who were believed to be possessed with investigator Lorraine Warren claiming to have witness one sister levitate, and another dematerialize before her eyes – only to be found sometime later, contorted in a large fuse box. Warren had previously shared she believed it to be one of the most terrifying cases she had encountered, and that the demon had communicated with her husband on multiple occasions. The actual case itself was horrifying enough as is, so we can only imagine that James Wan will use as many real-life experiences for the sequel. While there isn’t any tangible footage for us to watch just yet, the first still was recently released by the official Twitter, giving us a look at the possessed Janet Hodgson – who looks a lot like the real girl. Check out the comparison of both below.

With this particular case, and what has been stated regarding The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, there is a seemingly strong possibility that the sequel may be one of the few horror films to surpass its predecessor. Are you excited for The Conjuring 2?
