The CW to Air New Shows in January 2021

The CW announced that it will not be airing any new scripted shows in Fall 2020.

The CW announced that it will not be airing any new scripted shows in Fall 2020. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 production shutdown, the network announced along with its Fall schedule that most of its scripted programming will be held until the new year. Many of these shows would usually start filming in July or August for a September or October start date but studios remain closed due to the pandemic. The only scripted show scheduled to air in the fall is the series finale of Supernatural. Supernatural was set to end this spring but the final episodes were unable to be filmed before production was shut down due to the coronavirus.

“As we manage the current crisis, we’ve developed a methodical programming strategy for this year and well in to next that we believe works for The CW, our advertisers, affiliates and audience, while keeping the health and safety of our productions and creative partners front of mind,” said Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The CW in a press release.

However, that doesn’t mean we will be without Fall TV. As announced in Variety, The CW will air a number of acquired and unscripted shows instead. Some of these shows include: Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Penn and Teller: Fool Us, and World’s Funniest Animals. The network will also air Pandora, which is a summer show and acquired shows The Outpost and Two Sentence Horror Stories in the fall.

In January 2021, we will see the return of Riverdale, The Flash, Batwoman, Legacies, Charmed, Black Lightning, All American, and Nancy Drew. In addition, Superman and Lois, Walker, The Republic of Sarah, and Kung Fu will join the CW’s lineup in January. Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Roswell New Mexico, In The Dark, and Dynasty are set to return at midseason. The CW is also planning a much smaller Arrowverse Crossover Event in Q1 or Q2 of 2021, likely with only Batwoman and Lois and Superman.
