Stephen Colbert’s replacement has been announced, and the choice seems like an excellent one. Daily Show correspondent Larry Wilmore will take over Colbert’s 11:30 pm Comedy Central timeslot with a new show called The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore. The Minority Report will debut in January as Colbert exits Comedy Central to take the helm of CBS’s The Late Show from the retiring David Letterman. An accomplished actor, comedian, producer, and award-winning writer for The Bernie Mac Show, Wilmore is no stranger to mixing serious social commentary with comedy, including issues of race. In 2009 he wrote the book I’d Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts, and in 2012 he hosted the Showtime series Larry Wilmore’s Race, Religion & Sex. Wilmore currently holds the satirically-named position of “senior black correspondent” on The Daily Show and is also showrunner of a forthcoming ABC comedy entitled Black-ish. Wilmore will work on Black-ish until The Minority Report starts next year. The Minority Report, created and co-produced by Jon Stewart, will hopefully continue the combination of wit, intelligence, and honesty we’ve come to expect from Daily Show-related programming. Are you excited to see Larry Wilmore join the list of late night talk show hosts? Let us know in the comments! Keep Up With PopWrapped On The Web!
