The Fantastic Four Are Not Joining The MCU

Contrary to what rumors would have you believe, the Fantastic Four will not be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon.

In spite of what some circulating rumors would have you believe, a popular comic book team will not be joining up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige put the rumors to rest at D23 Expo, confirming that there are no plans to have the Fantastic Four join Marvel’s connected film universe.

Never say never for the Fantastic Four

“I’ve been at Marvel for 17 years… There are certainly no plans whatsoever for that,” Feige said. “But too many amazing things have happened over the past 17 years for me to ever say never. But for now, nothing.”

Of course, just because there are no plans to have it happen in the immediate future, doesn’t mean we should rule it out completely. The MCU is an endeavor of many, many years, and the Fantastic Four could appear at some point in the future.

“There’s a chance that aliens could come down from the sky right now,” Feige added. “And we’ll use them in the movie to save money on visual effects.”

Joining the MCU would give the Fantastic Four a much needed boost

With the failure of the most recent Fantastic Four reboot, many fans were hoping to see them join the MCU to get that boost in quality storytelling they’d been hoping for, not to mention seeing some of their favorite comic book characters interact with the likes of the Avengers. Plus, with Sony’s recent deal with Marvel over Spider-Man, fans were definitely hoping Fox could work something out with Marvel as well.

Part of what fueled the Fantastic Four rumors were the four mystery figures cloaked at the Avengers display on the convention floor, but these were revealed to be the Black Order, aka the Children of Thanos. Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, has been the chief antagonist of the MCU.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
