Thirty years after the release of Return of The Jedi a number of the original cast members have been reunited at the Star Wars Celebration Europe.
The three day fan event which is taking place in Essen, Germany has been attended by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher who famously played Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in the original trilogy.
The stars were also joined by other stars of the original series which included Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Ian McDiarmid (The Emperor/Darth Sidious), Warwick Davis (Wicket The Ewok), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).
There will be Star Wars press conferences, special 3D screenings of Return of the Jedi and Attack of the Clones, and a panel with Kathleen Kennedy who is a producer on the long awaited Star Wars: Episode VII.
Mark Hamill talked fondly and enthusiastically of how important the fans are to the movie franchise. “It never ceases to amaze me, the passion of these fans,” he said at the Celebration Launch. “First of all, they know more about the movies than I do and it’s just a wonderful energy that they bring.
“To see parents who were children when these were brand new, it jumps from generation to generation. I never expected that kind of longevity.”
Carrie Fisher, said that returning to a galaxy far, far away was a “very surreal” experience, and that the movies are a “fairytale for contemporary times” and this is the reason for Star Wars continuing success.
Hamill and Fisher are expected to return alongside Harrison Ford for the new Star Wars: Episode VII. The film is due to be released in the Summer of 2015.
