The Force Is Strong In Abu Dhabi: First On-Set Photos Of Star Wars: Episode VII Leaked

A new photo taken in the Abu Dhabi desert appears to be the first evidence of the filming of Star Wars: Episode VII. The picture was taken Tuesday morning in the dunes near the Qasr Al Sarab resort and the large, circular door sticks out like sore thumb.

Of course, the fact that the photo was taken in a desert will have fans recalling the visuals of Tatooine, one of the most popular destinations of the first 6 films. Given the fact that Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker at the time), and Luke Skywalker hail from the planet with three moons, it’s hard to imagine Tatooine won’t have a role to play in the next trilogy.

What’s strange, though, is that none of the locals have admitted to any strange behavior around the area. Investigations at a petrol station, two cafes, and two shops have all resulted in the same general consensus: not a single person has noticed a nearby movie set.

“I live around here, it’s totally my home area and I’m sure if anything as big as that was going on I’d know about it,” said an Emirati farmer.

Alan Horn, Disney Studios chairman, has previously stated that filming was going to begin at the beginning of April, but other than that, director of the film JJ Abrams has kept most details under wraps. Other than Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Peter Mayhew expected to reprise their roles, casting of the new film has also been secretive.

It’s possible we may just have to speculate from now until December 18th, 2015 when the film hits theaters; but hopefully a few more tidbits of news will slip through the cracks before then to whet our appetites.
