‘The Foreigner’ Trailer Talk

What’s better than Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan teaming up for a new thriller? The trailer itself! ‘The Foreigner’ hits theaters October 13.

After receiving an Honorary Oscar at the 2016 Governors Awards (and acknowledged for this at the 2017 Academy Awards), Jackie Chan is back in action, and he means business. The Foreigner (2017), coming to theater screens this fall, dropped its first trailer and it looks darn good. Directed by acclaimed and reputable action director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale (2006), GoldenEye (1995), Green Lantern (2011), The Mask of Zorro (1998), The Legend of Zorro (2005)), The Foreigner takes place in London’s Chinatown, and follows Chan as Quan, who is seeking vengeance for his daughter’s death.

The action movies we all know and love

While the movie looks very similar to film plots like The Fugitive (1993) or the Taken films (2007-14), we have to admit that we love these kind of films, where the untrained (maybe not necessarily in Chan’s case) but certainly capable, everyday protagonist will stop at nothing to find the one who committed the very personal crime.

Just watching the trailer gives the viewer a Casino Royale vibe and feel; it is quite clear that the action, cinematography, production design, and set pieces are under Martin Campbell’s direction and vision, and will give us the intense and edge-of-your-seat experience that we have come to expect from him.

Pierce Brosnan also stars in the film as government agent Liam Hennessy, a friend or foe we can’t be too sure of in this first trailer. Brosnan has worked with Campbell before in GoldenEye, and he certainly looks to be bringing his A-game here. I mean, come on, Jackie Chan going up against James Bond? What could be better?

While we all love Jackie Chan in his comedic, goofy, but always fun roles, it’s great to see Chan return here to a more dramatic performance like his Mr. Han in The Karate Kid (2010) remake. I know I’m definitely going to check this one out. I had no idea who the team was behind this film and now I am intrigued.

The Foreigner will star Jackie Chan, Pierce Brosnan, and Charlie Murphy, and runs into theaters October 13, 2017.
