Season two of CBS show Elementary is returning with a London based episode. Viewers will finally meet the elusive Mycroft Holmes. Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) will meet Sherlock’s older brother when they are called to London to revisit an old case that Sherlock has previously investigated. The relationship between Sherlock and Mycroft is always a difficult one and allows the viewer to see another side to the detective.
The older Holmes brother will be played by Rhys Ifans. The Welsh actor is perhaps best known for playing Hugh Grant’s housemate in Notting Hill.
It is not the first time the trio have starred with each other. Ifans previously starred with Lee Miller in Love, Honour, and Obey and Liu in Hotel.
Robert Doherty, the show’s executive producer has said “I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard. I’ve always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny and Lucy, both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films.”
CBS have sent out a plot synopsis for the episode which will air on September 26th.
“In the episode, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case, where he is forced to face his older brother, Mycroft. Although the siblings suffered a drastic falling-out a few years earlier, Mycroft allows Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home, 221B Baker Street. With Joan in the middle, the brothers are forced to confront their very complicated history.”
Ifans joins a list of British stalwarts who have portrayed the elusive and interesting Mycroft Holmes including Stephen Fry and Mark Gatiss.
