Who says you can only die once? It’s certainly not the case for AMC’s The Killing as it was cut off for the second time. The drama series was cancelled last year after only two seasons, however, they received a last minute reprieve and were revived for a third season to see how it does. Now it looks like it was a short-lived as AMC announced on Tuesday that it was killing off the series.

Based on the Danish TV series, Forbrydelsen, The Killing starred Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman as police investigators in Seattle. Peter Sarsgaard was brought in in season 3, playing a death row prisoner. While it received positive critical reaction, the fans were just not there, and with a season finale of 1.5 million, the series was only just drawing in a larger crowd than the end of season 2, which lead to the first cancellation.

In an AMC statement to Deadline, they said: “We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of The Killing. We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched.”

The series producers, Fox Television Studios, also released a statement, saying: “Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of all three seasons of The Killing,” the studio said. “We’re especially gratified to have orchestrated a unique deal with AMC for Season 3 that included a bold partnership with Netflix. While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series: our brilliant cast, led by Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and Season 3’s Peter Sarsgaard; our stellar executive producer, Veena Sud; a remarkable writing and producing team; and a tireless, dedicated crew. Most of all, FTVS thanks the terrific fans of The Killing, who communicated their appreciation for the show throughout its run.”
