“Mamma Knows Best” Amber Nicole versus “Living For The City” Josh Logan:
This is all about commanding the stage to Christina. Power doesn’t matter if you can’t command it. Amber Nicole has picked “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J. She sounds so much better than last season when this was attempted. She needs to keep an eye on pitch and move about it. Josh goes with his style. Christina says he needs to add some vibrato and to not fear the high notes. Oh, hell yeah. Amber is all about power tonight. It’s awesome. I heard some squeaky pitchiness. I’m hearing something with pitch. I don’t know…I’m not connecting with the song – it needs more grit. Damn Josh Logan has soul. Oh, hell yeah, Josh! There’s some great groove here. He also sounds really good but he hasn’t really put his own spin on it. I don’t know who will win. I’m not feeling either one to be honest. I would go with Josh because he was consistent and smooth. Cee-Lo loved the character of Amber’s song and says that Josh has a great voice. Adam says that Amber delivered it and that Josh gave the Stevie song serious justice. Blake agrees with Adam on Josh and is impressed with Amber’s range at seventeen. Christina is glad that Amber brought the character and Josh brought the soul. WINNER: JOSH LOGAN Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo both steal Amber Nicole. Cee-Lo thinks Amber has a lot more to offer. Blake says he needs her on her team because he needs the talent. Adam gets a Cee-Lo chant started.

CEE-LO STEALS AMBER NICOLE

Erika:

Team Christina: Amber Nicole Vs. Josh Logan: Amber takes on “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J., and Josh takes on a Stevie Wonder classic “Living For The City.  Amber comes out powerful. I am loving this chick’s vocals and sass. So much power! X-tina enjoyed herself. Josh comes out strong too but he just sounds just way too much like Stevie for me to enjoy this.  He does the song justice and wins the knockout rounds. Ceelo and Blake both push to steal Amber, and she picks Ceelo over Blake. YES!!!

“Hit The Road Jack” Monika Leigh versus “You Oughta Know” Kat Robichaud:
GO KAT!!! I love her! Monika wants to show her bluesy and rock side. She is having trouble hitting the higher notes though. Damn, I love Kat. Seriously, she has this awesome grit to her voice. Kat puts her whole body into the song, plus she definitely vibes with Alanis. HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AWESOME! Monika Leigh looks terrified. Monika goes for a more sultry interpretation. Oh God she is really hot but she’s trying too hard. Oh, there’s Monika! Halfway through the song she finds her groove. Granted anyone would look boring compared to Kat’s dynamic performance. Adam says they are both crazy good and that Kat is a rock star. He says that Monika looked calculated. Blake called them talented and sexy. He picks Monika. Christina loved the Knockout. She loves Kat’s energy and commends Monika for giving it her all.

WINNER: KAT ROBICHAUD

Erika:

Team Ceelo: Kat Robichaud Vs. Monika Leigh: Kat, one of my people, picks “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morrissette, and Monika picks “Hit The Road Jack” by Ray Charles. Kat comes out, guns blazing, balls to the wall, ready to kick some serious ass, and I effing love her for it. She nails this angry girl classic! Monika was sultry but seem so chilled after Kat’s performance.

Bec:

“Creep” Holly Henry versus “Genie In A Bottle” Nic Hawk:
NIC MY BABY!!! Holly Henry goes the Radiohead route. Blake says the vocal is very, very challenging. She needs to hold onto the melody. Nic is showcasing his vocals with a Christina song. He needs to focus on his lower range. I don’t know if this Holly’s song. It’s really ambitious, but jeez…it doesn’t suit her at all. It sounds off to me. I think this is a case of Holly making a bad song choice. Now, this takes me back, I love how different this is. Nic is having a lot of fun with this song. Damn, this sounds like some baby making music there, Nic. Christina applauds that Holly went fearless and Nic brought her back down memory lane. She says that it’s personal preference. Adam thought the emotion overcame Holly’s performance so he picks Nic. Blake is very proud of them being who they want to be. Holly’s emotion was great and he’s proud that Nic knows who he is.

WINNER: NIC HAWK

Erika:

Team Blake: Holly Henry Vs. Nic Hawk: Holly takes on Radiohead’s “Creep”, and Nic takes on “Genie In a Bottle” by X-Tina. I like Holly’s choice but Nic’s really has me thinking WTF. Holly does an amazing job and nails the tone and style of this classic. Nic turns X-Tina into a neo-soul song. Musically, I like the feel but his vocals just grate on my nerves. I really can’t. Nic gets chosen by Blake as the winner unfortunately. No steal for Holly.

Bec:

“Hey Soul Sister” Ashley DuBose versus “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” Tessanne Chin:
Ashley wants to show off her playful side. Tessanne wants to show off her pipe. She’s hoarse though which leads to some shaky notes for her. Ashley is having a lot of fun on the stage. I think she is messing some of the rhythm to the song though…maybe overextending the notes? Oh, Tessanne that’s much better girl! You must have rested your pipes. Christina said that Tessanne made it sound easy. Cee-Lo said that Ashley has a more ethereal voice and Tessanne has a lioness voice.

WINNER: TESSANNE CHIN

Erika:

Team Adam: Ashley Dubose Vs. TessAnne Chin: Ashley picks “Hey Soul Sister” by Train, and TessAnne picks ” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson. Ashley sounds great but I don’t think this song showed off her vocals well. She was kinda all over the place. My girl TessAnne, though, is too fierce with her vocals and wipes the floor with Ashley.  Hands down, crushes it! TessAnne wins it!

Bec:

“Don’t Speak” Briana Cuoco versus “Last Name” Shelbie Z.:
He wants to see who brings it here. Briana wants to show off her rock song. Blake says that she needs to be a little more straightforward. She could over embellish it. Shelbie picks a song she always wins with. She just has problems with her breath control. Some of Briana’s choices don’t sound right to me. This just sounds off tonight. Oh hell yeah Shelbie. She is working it! Shelbie is nailing it! Oh my God Shelbie wins. She wins. Hands down. Christina is happy for Briana and notices pitch problems there but she loved Shelbie’s confidence. Cee-Lo thought Briana was too somber especially next to Shelbie’s charm.

WINNER: SHELBIE Z

Erika:

Team Blake: Briana Cuoco Vs. Shelbie Z.: My girl Briana picks “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt, and Shelbie picks “Last Name” by Carrie Underwood.  Briana channels angry Gwen so well, and I get chills. Shelbie comes out strong as well but sounds just like Carrie for me so I can’t enjoy it. I need originality. Unfortunately, Shelbie sounds more confident and wins the knockout round. No steal for Bri 🙁

Bec:

“Already Gone” Grey versus “Breakeven” James Irwin:
This is a season of emotion, isn’t it? Grey needs to focus on her notes and not do the falsetto unless she’s sure. James wants to show his high notes. Adam wants the emotion though, not the technical. Oh, this. Yeah, I can dig this. Grey’s voice has grown on me a bit. She has a lot of presence and clear notes. I like James a bit, but I don’t know here. He sounds a little distant emotionally. It’s technically perfect though. I mean if Adam is looking for emotion then I need to give it to Grey here. Blake picks James over Grey. Christina thought Grey brought it home with the falsetto and the follow through. Christina likes the rich tone and the accuracy for James. Adam thought both of them were fantastic.

WINNER: GREY

Erika:

Team Adam: Grey Vs. James Irwin: Grey picks”Already Gone” by Kelly Clarkson, and James takes on “Breakeven” by the Script. Grey sounds plain for me, nothing spectacular. James, on the other hand, crushes it. He really gets into his performance.  Adam picks Grey because she is unique.

Bec: “See You Again” Destinee Quinn versus “You’re No Good” Olivia Henken:
Destinee needs to live out the song and nail it. It’s such a big song for her. Olivia needs to keep it away from karaoke and pick her moments out. Oh geez, I don’t think Destinee’s voice. It’s not my cup of tea. Does she sound flat? She sounds flat. She seems like a nice girl but I just can’t. Olivia makes these funny/weird faces when she sings. It’s kind of hilarious. She definitely builds up to those moments. Honestly? I don’t see either one making it very far in the Live Rounds. She definitely has enough sass to punctuate it though. Adam thought that Olivia was sharp and Destinee had big notes. Blake said that Destinee was flat and Olivia was sharp. He goes with Olivia. Christina believes nerves got to them.

WINNER: OLIVIA HENKEN

Erika:

Team Christina: Destinee Quinn Vs. Olivia Henken: Destinee takes on “See You Again” by Carrie Underwood, and Olivia picks “You’re No Good” by Linda Ronstadt. Destinee, for me, was pitchy and screeching all over the place, confusing power with desperation. Olivia, on the other hand, was cool and controlled. I was totally feeling her. They both did let nerves over take them but X-Tina saw Olivia’s strength and picks her as her winner. No steal for Destinee.

Bec:

“Let Her Go” Cole Vosebury versus “We Can Work It Out” Jonny Gray:
Oh it’s the battle of the EPIC HAIR! I know it, Cole! It’s a very nice song. Jonny picks a popular, well known song. Jonny needs to include everyone in the song. Cole is very mellow and plays against his type. I like his voice. It’s smooth but has some nice grit to it. He knows when to put it to good use. Jonny is very happy and sweet. I love the calm energy of his performance. Oh my God, I don’t know who to root for!!! They both are really good in different ways! And then Jonny lets out that crazy note at the end. I don’t know. Adam tells them that he is going to hit his button. Blake said that he picks Cole for having more control. Christina prefers Jonny’s stage presence and his voice makes her ears perk up.

WINNER: JOHNNY GRAY

Adam hits his button for Cole Vosebury followed by Blake for Cole. Adam thought this was Cole’s best performance. Blake wants to help Cole realize his dreams and find himself as an artist. BLAKE STEALS COLE VOSEBURY.

Erika:

Team Ceelo: Cole Vosbury Vs. Jonny Gray: Cole picks “Let Her Go” by Passenger and Jonny picks “We Can Work It Out” by the Beatles. Damn I wish I had put Cole on my team because the guy has some soul. I totally loved his performance.  Jonny is a breath of fresh air, though, and I found myself humming along to his performance. Both of them are keepers in my book. Jonny gets the win but Blake steals Cole from Adam and Ceelo.
