“The LEGO Movie” Builds Its Way To The Top For The Third Week In A Row

The surprise smash hit The LEGO Movie continues its reign at the top of the cinematic charts, grossing an estimated $31.5 million at the end of its third weekend.

The 2014 animated feature has already reached $183 million total domestic ticket sales, with a worldwide gross of $275 million.

Having already proven itself the unprecedented king of the early 2014 box office, The LEGO Movie shows no signs of slowing down. Owing much to the film’s unyielding success, box office business has also shown to have increased by nearly 6 percent over last year.

At the close of its third week, The LEGO Movie was followed distantly by action thriller 3 Days to Kill, which debuted at $12.3 million. Pompei grossed $10 million domestic with an additional $22 million in foreign sales, while the Sony Robocop rehashing came in the fourth spot at $9.4 million – its domestic total stands at $43 million, with additional foreign gross totaling $100 million.

Fellow animated smash hit Frozen continued on its path towards a billion-dollar gross, raking in another $4.4 million this past week. The lauded Disney feature has now reached $384 million in domestic sales, with an impressive $596 million in the foreign markets.

Warner Bros.’ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opened at $32.7 million in China, becoming the studios’ biggest debut in that nation to date. The film’s worldwide total now stands at a massive $894 million.
