Dame Helen Mirren seems to be making quite the career out of imitating the Queen. Mirren took home the award for best actress over the weekend at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience. This is not at all surprising since this award will sit amongst her Oscar, Bafta, and Olivier awards that she won for playing Elizabeth II in 2006’s The Queen. While accepting her award Dame Helen remarked, "They loved it but they were loving the Queen really they're not really loving me. It's her and that incredible history. She's the one person who's been in my life the longest apart from my sister. It's amazing to be a part of that." The nights other big winners were Rory Kinnear and Adrian Lester who shared the award for best actor. The duo appear opposite each other in Othello at the National Theater. However the night really belonged to another Dame, Dame Maggie Smith. Smith was honored with the Standard’s Icon Award for her various contributions to the world stage. Making her debut in 1952 as Viola in Twelfth Night at the Oxford Playhouse her career took off. You can currently see the dame on Downton Abbey as Dowager Countess of Grantham.
