With the premiere of series 8 a few weeks away, it seems that Peter Capaldi’s incarnation of the Timelord may be about to face off against fellow Gallifreyan runaway, The Master.
The rumour has been floating about for quite some time and now The Daily Star claims that he is definitely returning, but will not be portrayed by John Simm, last seen playing the role in 2010’s David Tennant finale “The End of Time.” Producers are allegedly looking at Hollywood actors for the part, although Game of Thrones Charles Dance is a fan favourite to take on the role. The upcoming series recently filmed some scenes in Lanzarote, a setting for a previous battle between Timelords, in the 1984 episode “Planet of Fire” which starred Peter Davison and Anthony Ainley as the good and bad guys, respectively. Could we be seeing a sequel to this episode? Is the Master really returning to our screens with a new face? I’ll guess we’ll have to wait until August to know for certain…
