According to Variety, Disney Theatrical Productions is contemplating the idea of possibly bringing a live stage show featuring the classic Muppets to Broadway in the near future.

Reports say that a private showcase was held on May 31 at the New Amsterdam Theatre under the direction of Alex Timbers.

Nearly ninety Muppets were used in the test run of the project. This was held to determine if it would be possible to accommodate “the puppetry needs with audience sightlines and all the other physical demands of legit theater.”

Of course, Kermit the Frog’s classic “Rainbow Connection” was part of the show.

Thomas Schumacher who is currently the president of Disney Theatrical told Variety: “It was a test of concept. I’m very intrigued.”

No official plans are in place for a full production. Schumacher, however, said he was “intrigued” by the 15-minute presentation that tested the technical demands of presenting The Muppets with a live audience of invited guests at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

So what do you think? Would Muppets on Broadway work or be a flop?
