Attention citizens of Panem: on November 11, 2013, should you wish to witness the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, you must travel to the royal city of London to do so.
It was released this morning that the second installment in the film trilogy will makes its debut in London, before hitting US theaters on November 22.
Catching Fire sends Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) back to the arena for the Quarter Quell, which is a special edition of the games that comes along every 25 years (hence “quarter”). Each Quell has a different theme, and the 75th Games “coincidentally” pulls from past victors and sends them back into Hell for one more round of horror. Unfortunately, Katniss is the only female victor from District 12, and so her trip back to the capitol is inevitable. Haymitch actually gets pulled out of the hat, but Peeta immediately volunteers, securing his seat on the fast-train to almost certain death.
Catching Fire happens to be my favorite book in the trilogy, and while I wasn’t totally thrilled with the first movie (mostly due to some casting and plot changes), I am really excited for the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ second masterpiece; mostly because I am excited to see the wonderfully complex characters that were introduced in this book come to life.
What happens in the Games, you may ask? Well, I’m not in the business of spoilers, so if you’re one of like twenty people who have yet to read the books, you will have to wait until November to find out!
May the odds be ever in your favor.
