We're down to the Final 4: American Idol closes in on the finish line! I hope you'r all comfortable, because tonight's show is JAM PACKED with performances!! Each of the 4 finalists were set to perform 3 songs each, which would give us 12 performances all together. In other words, it's going to be a VERY LONG NIGHT. Ryan Seacrest did our usual intros and what was amazing was that our beloved longtime host was rocking some facial hair for the first time! Up first: 1. Caleb Johnson - "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi Perfect start to the show!! Caleb exploded on stage with his Bon Jovi cover and I know this may sound like a broken record, but it really did suit Caleb. He managed to change some of the runs making it completely his own. And his voice never wavered!! The judges were all in agreement that it was a killer start to the night. 2. Jessica Meuse - "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson Ladies and gentlemen, the definition of POOR SONG CHOICE. That by no means the song is awful, because it's amazing, but this song was not made for Jessica's voice. There was no energy, no passion, no delivery. It just didn't work. Harry called her out on the vocal, saying it wasn't her best performance. 3. Alex Preston - "Too Close" by Alex Clare Now THAT is a song choice!! Alex showed so much emotion in this performance, and it may have been my favorite of his in the entire competition. His growl, phrasing and command was just on point and I loved every second of it. I do actually agree with Jennifer though and that is we need Alex to give a star turning performance. 4. Jena Irene - "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar Same as Alex this was a perfect song choice. I actually agreed with Keith though that she didn't seem to move around enough. The last note was a tad off but the vocal as a whole was fantastic. I really did enjoy it. ROUND 2! 1. Caleb Johnson - "Travelin' Band" by CCR Our rocker is on fire tonight!!! While I didn't enjoy it as much as his first performance, this was still crazy good from the start to the end. The judges, as well as mentor Randy Jackson, loved the performance and rightfully so. Another stellar job. 2. Jessica Meuse - "So What" by Pink I'm not sure what has happened to Jessica tonight, but as of right now she was 0 for 2 for me. While she did move more with this performance of the Pink song, the girl has absolutely ZERO rhythm. The vocal was definitely better but I just couldn't get into it. I feel like she's really dropping the ball. I need more. 3. Jena Irene - "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga Interesting song choice. And I'm not sure it worked. I love this girl and I'm not going to totally hold this against her, but the arrangement was an absolute mess. The song was barely recognizable and it felt really off. Yes, her vocal was good but the set up was very distracting. A rare miss for my beloved Jena. 4. Alex Preston - "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz This guy I tell you..... He KNOWS what songs to sing. He just does plain and simple. Another stellar vocal from the leader of the pack tonight. Brilliant. And now I have a bone to pick with the judges: The ONE TIME Alex doesn't change the arrangement and they're all over him? CALEB NEVER CHANGES THE ARRANGEMENT!!! And finally, round 3!! 1. Caleb Johnson - "Maybe I'm Amazed" So I have some pros and cons: Pro? This vocal was OUTSTANDING. Con? He didn't change the arrangement at all, which they just finished telling Alex to do, yet gave Caleb a standing ovation. 2. Jessica Meuse - "You & I" by Lady Gaga About damn time!!!! Jessica had a rough go with her first 2 songs, but she finally found herself with her final performance. Her vocals were smooth and when it got to the bridge, she absolutely HAD it. Great job!! 3. Jena Irene - "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley This girl is always surprising me. And I'm almost speechless. I said almost though. Jennifer was standing before the song finished. Without a doubt, this was the performance of the season, and possibly of the SERIES. Jena's emotion poured through and I don't know what else to say. WOW. 4. Alex Preston - "Yellow" by Coldplay Magical. A note to the live audience during an emotional ballad? STOP CLAPPING!!!!!!! That wraps up one stellar night, and according to yours truly, Jena stole the night with her closing performance. What was YOUR favorite performance? Who's going home tomorrow night?
