There’s a lot to look forward to at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, including a celebration of zombies aka the walking dead.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Robert Kirkman’s best selling comic, The Walking Dead. The comic was first issued in 2003 and is still ongoing with over 100 issues.
The series follows Rick Grimes, who sets out to find his family in a post-apocalyptic world, then later leads a group of survivors in the zombie filled world.
The comic series has launched a huge franchise with a hit television series on AMC, as well as several video games and a novel. So it’s very fitting that The Walking Dead will return and celebrate at Comic-Con, which takes place July 18 - July 21.
According to the LA Times, you can expect to see zombie costume contests, a zombie make-up station and a booth to play The Walking Dead video game. For fans of the television adaptation, a panel will be held on Friday, June 19th.
The Walking Dead escape will also return to San Diego’s Petco Park. Fans will be able to experience the early days of the apocalypse on July 19 & 20 – running around the obstacle course either as the dead or running from the previous trying to survive.
A custom-designed 2013 Hyundai Veloster will also be unveiled as a “Zombie Survival Machine” ready to take on a zombie apocalypse.
After 10 years, the franchise remains strong. “This entire event is a thank-you to fans of The Walking Dead universe,” Kirkman said.
I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing a lot of zombies roaming around the San Diego Convention Center this year.
