Fans of the trifecta comprising Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright (and producer Nira Park) got a little excited in the late hours of May 5 after Wright tweeted “Oh hello, new teaser poster for ‘The World’s End’” and shared this bit of colourful fun. Frost and Pegg look slightly perturbed with a mass of glowy-eyed people behind them. Who’s not listed on the poster (yet?) are co-stars Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Office, need I go on?), Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz, Bourne Ultimatum, Cinderella Man), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Happy Go-Lucky) and Rosamunde Pike (Barney’s Version, Made in Dagenham, Wrath of the Titans) . Squeeeee!!!!

Wright co-wrote the film with Simon Pegg and is also directing it, as he did Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (and as the poster reminds those not in the know). The World’s End will be the third in what the team call the “Three Cornetto Flavours” trilogy. In the short interview Digital Spy have online, Pegg mentions that The World’s End has been in the works for 5 years (Shaun of the Dead came out in 2004 and Hot Fuzz in 2007) and that it’s darker; darker even than Shaun of the Dead was. Ostensibly, The World’s End is a pub, but there’s definitely more than meets the eye, as the tagline on the film’s website invites patrons in for: “Good food. Fine ales. Total annihilation.” I’m guessing the latter comes free of charge.
I’m sorry to see the trilogy end, but as a proud owner of the previous 2 films, I will definitely be checking my local listings when this film comes out in North America on August 23. UK film-goers won’t have as long of a wait; the film premieres there on July 19. You lucky ducks.
