The Thrilling Trailer For CW's Vixen Cartoon Debuts | Vixen

The first trailer for the CW Seed animated series Vixen  debuted. Vixen is a superhero who is able to tap into the power of animals using her family's Tantu Totem. Her back story, like so many other superheroes, is tragic. Her family was killed influencing her desire to fight for justice.

The animated series will run for six episodes on CW Seed, their online streaming service. The series will feature Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen, or Mari McCabe as she's known in her civilian identity. The series is set in the same universe as Arrow, The Flash, as well as Legends of Tomorrow, and will also feature voice appearances from lead actors like Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards, and Carlos Valdes.

Vixen, and the source of her powers, seem almost out of place in the realistic universe established in Arrow. Showrunner Marc Guggenheim explained the progression from Arrow to Vixen to TV Guide Magazine, saying,

We started off with Arrow, which is very grounded, the The Flash introduced the concept of superpowers to this universe, and soon Vixen will introduce the concept of magic. We're continuing to build and expand the tapestry that we have to play with.

The CW has a pretty great track record at adapting comic book characters to the small screen, and if the trailer is any indication, Vixen  will be right at home. The only downside is that the run is currently limited to six episodes of an unknown length. After seeing that trailer, I'm ready for some full-time, live-action Vixen! What do you think?
