Tig Notaro, Louis C.K., Diablo Cody Sign On New Amazon Show

Comedians Tig Notaro and Louis C.K. team up with writer Diablo Cody for a new Amazon comedy based on Notaro’s knack for finding humor in dark places

“Tig Notaro has just recovered from an abdominal disease that has left her gaunt, wasted, exhausted and pretty much stripped of everything except her finely honed sense of the absurd. Abruptly summoned home to Pass Christian, Miss., to take her ailing mother off life support, Tig finds herself dealing with her clingy girlfriend, her dysfunctional Gulf Coast family and the loss of the one person who held everything together.”  Sounds funny, right? Umm…

This, according to Hollywood Reporter, is the logline of the newly inked deal for a comedy pilot coming to Amazon. The show, currently nameless, was originally a script deal with FX, but has since been picked up as a pilot by Amazon.

The semi-autobiographical single-cam comedy will star stand-up comedian Tig Notaro. She will be co-writing the show alongside Diablo Cody (that’s right, the woman who gave us Juno and United States of Tara). The two, along with comedian Louis C.K., will produce the show.

Openly gay Notaro wrapped a nationwide stand-up tour in January. After the special took off, she scored a Showtime documentary, an HBO comedy special and a Netflix documentary, which recently premiered to rave reviews.

Notaro, who has been featured on The Sarah Silverman Program and frequently collaborates with the comedian, also has appeared on Inside Amy Schumer and popped up in Schumer’s hit summer comedy Trainwreck.

Though the new Amazon show is sure to be highly anticipated, there is not yet a set release date.
