Tilda Swinton once again proves she can do a man’s job better than a man himself, as she has joined the cast of Marvel’s Dr Strange.
Swinton will be playing a character known as ‘The Ancient One’, a Tibetan mystic who mentors Dr. Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch). This is unusual casting as the character was an Asian man in the comic universe, yet I wouldn’t quite call it whitewashing just yet, because if there was a person capable of playing this role, Swinton is definitely that person.
With a list of credits, including the critically acclaimed We Need To Talk About Kevin, and more recently Grand Budapest Hotel, she’s no stranger to quirky, intriguing characters.
Dr. Strange will start filming soon, with a release date planned for late 2016, which is turning out to be a banner year for comic book movies, with Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Deadpool all being released next year.
Tilda will next be seen in the Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck, and the drama A Bigger Splash.
