In an interview with The Daily Beast, Oscar winning actress Tilda Swinton discussed a range of topics at SXSW. Swinton is currently promoting her vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive, which also stars Tom Hiddleston and is directed by Jim Jarmusch. The moody film revolves around two vampires, Adam and Eve. Swinton seems to have been born to play the ageless and elegant creature. She facetiously says she achieves the look through not wearing mascara. Vampire stories seem to have had a resurgence over the past few years, and frankly audiences are becoming selective and suspicious about which ones to invest in. Only Lovers Left Alive takes a new spin on one of the more attractive aspects of vampirism: immortality. Swinton says this film attempts to capture the lengthiness of living forever and the trials it brings. She also spoke about the picture of her holding a rainbow flag in front of the Kremlin. Russia has been under scrutiny, especially during the Olympics, for its vague and aggressive anti-gay laws. Swinton sees only irony in this, stating “Russia has the gayest president ever. No that’s an offensive thing to say-not to him, but to the gay community.” She also discusses her favorite movie from the past year, her performance art piece at MoMA and more. Check it out at The Daily Beast! Are you excited for this new vampire film?
