Tina, Miley, And Bruce: SNL To Return With A Bang

Heather O’Connell

Staff Writer

Saturday Night Live starts its 39th season on September 28, 2013 and the show just released the list of the first three hosts and musical guests today. Set to host the season premiere is former cast member Tina Fey with musical guest Arcade Fire. Fey worked for SNL as a writer and cast member from 1997-2006, and has made a few appearances since her departure, including hosting the show 3 times.

One week later, Miley Cyrus is set to appear for the second time as host and musical guest on October 5, 2013. One thing that is sure to be on everyone’s minds is what to expect from Cyrus since her last televised performance was her very controversial one from the VMAs this year.

The third host for this season, on October 12, 2013, will be Bruce Willis with musical guest Katy Perry. Willis will be hosting for the second time with Perry making her second appearance as a musical guest since her hosting stint in 2011.

SNL is in for some big changes this year as Seth Meyers is set to make his departure from the Weekend Update desk this December to take over for Jimmy Fallon at The Late Show. The show also added three new writers to the cast this season in Claire Mulaney, the younger sister of former writer John Mulaney, stand-up comic Brooks Wheelan, and former cast member of MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, Mikey Day.

With three cast members departing last season, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen, the show has hired 5 new faces to be featured cast members this season. The first is Noel Wells who has credits as an actress, director, writer, costume designer, editor, and experience with motion graphics. The second is Michael Patrick O’Brien, an SNL writer turned cast member. The third is John Milhiser, a now former member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Fourth is Kyle Mooney, who has made plenty of guest appearances on TV shows to YouTube. Finally we have Beck Bennett, but you might remember him from the AT&T commercials as the deadpan moderator of the little kids’ debates.
