Our favourite gals from the 90’s, TLC (Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas) are back and they are a force to be reckoned with. Twenty years may have passed since the height of their fame, but they have returned.

The girls are dominating with their upcoming VH1 biopic, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, a soundtrack for the film, and a brand spanking new album titled 20. The girls and films actors Lil’ Mama , Keke Palmer and Drew Sidora sat down for a heartfelt interview with Entertainment Weekly recently where they spoke about the struggles of filming.

The TLC girls confessed that reliving  hard times were the most difficult aspects of the film. Having to revisit their feelings at the funeral of their band member Lisa “Left Eye lopez,” illness, and personal sad moments with one another were difficult to get through.

While TLC found difficulty opening old wounds, actresses Lil’ Mama, Keke Palmer, and Drew Sidora faced fan backlash. When people started to react to the films casting, Keke Palmer said that their backlash was for no reason at all, and that she decided to just ignore it.

“It was like the craziest thing any of us ever really experienced, because usually you would expect people to be happy for you when you’re given such a blessing. So during the course of the film, the girls and I made an unsaid pact to let that go and focus on us. And I think that’s what brought us close within our own little group while we were filming. So when the first picture came out, I was like ‘I don’t care what nobody says, we happy, we love it.’ We were tweeting it out, and I left it at that,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

While Palmer and Sedora had TLC to advise them, Lil Mama admits it was hard not having Lisa to turn to for guidance. “It was very sad at times,” she said. “Reflecting on Left Eye not being there, I wanted to make sure that I portrayed her in the best light possible. I knew that it was my responsibility to bring her to life and to protect her as well. Since it was a job, I had to dust the sensitivity off my shoulder and get into character and do my research, and do the best job possible.”

Still, the actress said that despite the sad moments, shooting the film was vibrant and fun. “All of them had a great sense of humor so we had a really great time.” In the interview, Palmer credited Lil Mama for being positive and confident. TLC member Thomas said  that if Lisa was here, she would be in on the project, partaking in the interview.

“She knows. She knows,” she said

CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story  will air Monday, October 21 at 9PM ET/PT on VH1.
