Todd Fisher Says Debbie Reynolds “Really Wanted To Be With Carrie”

Todd Fisher claims his mother Debbie Reynolds did not die of a broken heart. She was very close to her daughter, Carrie, and wanted to be with her.

With the death of his sister, Carrie (60), and his mother, Debbie Reynolds (84), Todd Fisher is looking for any reason to be positive. Something we can all agree on: each woman left a deep, meaningful legacy.

When initially asked about his mother and sister, Todd confessed the two women had a powerful bond. “From the family’s perspective, this is Debbie’s destiny. She didn’t want to leave Carrie and did not want to her to be alone.”

According to official reports, Debbie Reynolds died of a stroke a day after her daughter Carrie Fisher, who “was a force of nature in her own right.” In an interview with E! News, Todd explained how Reynolds was “great” with Carrie’s natural energy.

So, naturally, the death of her daughter hit Debbie Reynolds very hard.

“It wasn’t that she was sitting around inconsolable — not at all. She simply said that she didn’t get to see Carrie come back from London. She expressed how much she loved my sister. She then said she really wanted to be with Carrie,” he said. “In those precise words, and within 15 minutes from that conversation, she faded out. Within 30 minutes, she technically was gone.”

“She started to have a stroke, and she just effectively went to sleep and didn’t wake up. She closed her eyes, peacefully like you’re going to sleep, and she literally went to sleep and left. My mother, if anybody, had somehow a way to do that, and I watched it happen in front of my face. I was on her bed with her, and I watched her leave and go to Carrie.”

Todd and his niece Billie Lourd (24) are planning a joint funeral, burying the Star Wars and Halloweentown actresses next to each other. Their Forest Lawn Memorial Park burial site in L.A. will be “among friends” such as actress Bette Davis and pianist Liberace.

“We’re brokenhearted, those of us that are left behind. We also are happy that they’re together. It’s horrible. It’s beautiful. It’s magical they’re together,” Todd admitted. “It’s beyond words. It’s beyond understanding.”

HBO’s Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher has been deemed “the greatest tribute.”
