Nefarious Marvel villain, troubled Hollow Crown Prince turned King, and now Monster Tamer? It seems like British actor Tom Hiddleston is quickly turning into a jack of all trades. The classically trained thespian took time out of his very busy schedule to indulge in a snack break with Sesame Street‘s resident sweet tooth connoisseur Cookie Monster.
The resulting video, which has gone viral since its posting today, contains two very important lessons, the first one being on why delayed gratification is a good thing (let’s keep it classy, folks), and the other lesson is on how to use your English charm to your advantage, like Hiddleston’s, to tame a monster.
The Thor and The Avengers star did a 180 from his larger than life big screen persona and turned on his best reverse psychology tricks to show Cookie Monster why waiting to eat one chocolate chip cookie will lead to an even better surprise in the future if one is patient. The PBS video starts off with Hiddleston, looking quite dapper in a trim cut suit, indulging in a tasty looking treat, teasing and tantalizing Cookie Monster with its gooey chocolatey deliciousness.
Seems cruel, right? There is a method to the actor’s madness though. Cookie Monster longingly gazes at the cookie in his palms, salivating as Hiddleston looks “perplexed” as it finally occurs to the actor why the Monster is losing his cool. “Ah yes, I’ve just made the correlation with your name and what I’m about to eat,” Hiddleston said, launching into the lesson on hand about self control.
The lover of all cookies takes this lesson quite hard though at the beginning. “Oh this hard! This hard for Monster – PLEASE!” Cookie Monster says in response to Hiddleston’s musings, possibly talking about the cookies or about just being around the talented actor.
