The poster for the Donmar Warehouse production of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus has been unveiled. The production which will star Avengers star Tom Hiddleston in the title role and Sherlock star Mark Gatiss will also be appearing in the play. The poster shows a bloody, topless Hiddleston which represents the violent themes within the play.
Hiddleston tweeted about the poster, and advertised that the play will be part of the National Theatre Live season and will be shown in cinemas on January 30 next year.

Hiddleston will be starring in the production from December 6 2013 – February 8 2014, and tickets go on sale from June 25. The official synopsis of the play from the Donmar describes the production as:
”When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. Famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.”
Hiddleston is no stranger to performing Shakespeare as he has previously starred in Othello on stage and played Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts I and II for the BBC last year.
