Officiating NFL games isn’t just for the boys anymore. Sarah Thomas will soon be calling the shots as a full-time NFL official.
The organization has actually been watching Thomas’ skills over the past seven years as she worked NFL preseason games and training camps. Now it looks like 2015 will finally be her year to literally move up to the big leagues.
In 2007, Thomas also earned the distinction of being the first woman to officiate an NCAA football game.
While Thomas will be the first full-time female NFL official, she actually won’t be the first woman ever to officiate a game. Shannon Eastin made that particular mark in pro sports history in 2012. Eastin worked as a replacement ref in 2012 at a Packers v. Chargers game during an NFL lock out of the full-time officiating crew.
