Trump’s Companies Have Hired 1,100 Foreign Workers

Nine companies owned by Donald Trump have hired over 1,100 foreign workers since 2000

Donald Trump’s political campaign is primarily based on insulting as many people as possible, and on keeping jobs in America. In his presidential announcement, he promised to be “the biggest jobs president that God ever created” and vowed to “bring back our jobs from China, Mexico, and other places”.

As it turns out, seems Trump meant “our jobs” quite literally. Nine companies owned by the notable asshole have applied to import hundreds of foreign workers on temporary visas – at least 1,100 since 2000. His Florida resort Mar-a-Lago applied for 70 visas in July of this year alone. Records show that most of those applications were granted.

One program used for at least 850 of those applications is the H-2B program. This program is supposed to be reserved for seasonal positions. In order to qualify, companies must have tried and failed to seek American employees to fill those positions before applying for temporary foreign workers. However, a number of government watchdog groups and other agencies have been critical of the H-2B program. The Labour Department Inspector General said that,

“Abuses of these programs may result in economic harm to American workers and businesses, exploitation of foreign workers, and security risks associated with aliens who are admitted to this country by fraudulent means.”

The Government Accountability Office published a report earlier this year expressing similar concerns.

More than 80 percent of the immigrants granted temporary visas under the H-2B program are Mexican, making it entirely possible that the majority of the immigrant workers employed by Trump’s companies are Mexican. Trump famously singled out Mexico as a country that sends only its criminals and rapists as workers, not “their best”.

The seasonal positions Trump’s companies could find no American employees to fill include the following:

  • Almost 250 fashion models

  • An assistant golf-course superintendent

  • An assistant hotel manager

  • A banquet manager

  • Nearly 800 hospitality workers
