Dev Hynes is known for creating wonders, such as Sky Ferreira’s “Everything Is Embarassing”, Solange’s “Losing You” and MKS’ “Flatline”. The producer has been one of the top names for indie-pop affairs, so it was only refreshing to find out he was working on Britney Spears’ eighth studio album, Britney Jean. To his disappointment, the tracks did not make the cut and the album did not end up being what fans were hoping for. However, a couple of demos have now found their way online.
It was assumed that a session with the two artists would have great potential, so it was only normal for fans to be left disappointed–especially since the Britney Jean they got was an album filled with will.i.am-helmed songs. The newly surfaced demos sound completely different from the stuff on the record, but both really good. One of them is an indie-pop midtempo, the ethereal type of tunes that could sound fantastic with Spears’ voice on. The other follows the indie approach of a piano ballad, something that could end up sounding much better than any slow track on the actual tracklisting.
There is no doubt that a session with Hynes would find the pop princess experimenting with new sounds and following a different direction. It’s difficult to think a decent executive producer would reject those productions. If anything, it would be interesting to hear Britney Spears singing on them, since they could make a match-made-in-heaven with her trademark-pop voice.
You can take a listen to both tracks below. Do you think they should have been on the album?
