Tyson Kelly Unveils His ‘Plastic Rockstar’ EP

“This EP is an entirely new direction for me and I think it’s my strongest work yet…”

Music all but runs in Tyson Kelly’s blood. His father is renowned song-writer Tom Kelly, responsible for huge hits including Whitney Houston’s “So Emotional” and Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” to name just two, so it’s really not that surprising to learn that Tyson has followed in his father’s footsteps, carving out his own path in the music industry after learning classical piano and guitar, and spending over a decade honing his craft, touring the world as a John Lennon impersonator, starring on Broadway in “Let It Be” and performing in the UK’s biggest Beatles group, The Bootleg Beatles.

Now though, he’s focused on his solo project, and is gearing up for the release of his four-track EP, Plastic Rockstar, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, and which is heavily influenced by the sounds and styles of the 80’s, led by bold percussion. Tyson’s aim for the collection was to create and share something uplifting; giving the world something to help them feel good – about themselves and the world – at a time when things, let’s face it, are pretty grim.

He says of Plastic Rockstar: “This EP is an entirely new direction for me and I think it’s my strongest work yet. Neil Candelora knocked it outta the park with the production and helped make it fun and vibey. Making music with friends is really important for the whole process to become a success, and that joy can be heard in the vocal takes and in the tracks.”

Tyson is proud of all the tracks on the EP, but “And I See Your Face” in particular means a lot to him as it: “..was done on the first night of us working together in this tiny studio way up in Edgware, North London. We really got to dig into it, as it had only been an idea we’d come up with years earlier and then stayed up till the sunrise layering the track and going it all together.”

With the EP ready to be shared with the world, he’s now looking to what comes next. “Now I’ve got to start playing these songs live,” he says. “Which is going to be quite a challenge considering they were developed between two guys in the studio from demos.”
