UK Top 40: Who's Dominating The Charts?

Adrienne Contreras

Staff Writer

Miley Cyrus’s "Wrecking Ball" may be pushed out of the number one spot on the UK singles chart by OneRepublic’s hit "Counting Stars" as they lead in the midweek charts. OneRepublic was recently passed up last Sunday as Cyrus gained the top spot, but with "Wrecking Ball" at number two in the midweeks, her position may be short-lived.  More competition comes in the form of Lawson, whose track "Juliet" comes in at number three. Lawson are just 4,000 copies behind OneRepublic, which means they still have the chance to take the number one spot. It also looks as if John Newman will top the album chart with his debut album Tribute thus ending Cyrus’s double chart reign when her new album Bangerz rose to number one last weekend.  Newman, who had recent chart-topping success in the single chart with his first solo track "Love Me Again" is outselling the current number two, Pearl Jam’s Lightning Bolt, by only 3,000 copies. James Blunt and Wilkinson come on at numbers 4 and 5 on the singles chart with "Bonfire Heart" and "Afterglow" respectively. Cher may gain her first UK Top 40 in 12 years with "I Hope You Find It", which is at 24 in the midweeks. Cher also makes a strong standing in the album chart with Closer to the Truth coming in at number three. That would be her highest charting UK album in 22 years. Sir Paul McCartney’s New and Perhaps Love by past Britain’s Got Talent runners-up Jonathon and Charlotte fill the four and five spots on the album chart. The official charts will be announced on Sunday starting at 4pm on Radio 1. Which track do you think deserves the top spot? Take a look at Miley's and OneRepublic's videos and sound off below!
