Amazingly, campaigns promoting LGBT rights have become more and more commonplace.

And it’s only escalating, with the United Nations recently joining in with their own unique idea. The organization has debuted the first ever Bollywood-influenced music video, on behalf of the Office of the UN High Commissioner, to promote the Free & Equal campaign.

The music video aims to inspire the idea of LGBT rights in India, and stars former Miss India Celina Jaitley singing “Uthe Sab Ke Kadam”, a 1979 Bollywood classic. A new version was remixed by Neeraj Shreedhar for this project.

Entitled “The Welcome”, the video depicts an Indian man who brings his boyfriend home to introduce to his family. At first, the family is shocked and have no idea how to react.

Jaitley is the uniting force, singing “It’s a new look, it is a new attitude/You might wonder where the old way of living has gone/But who is worried about who likes what/As long as in the world of love, two people want to be with each other?”, helping the family realize just how unimportant his partner’s gender is.

“It is an honor to partner with the United Nations on the incredibly timely and important Free & Equal campaign,” Jaitley, who was recognized last year by the UN for her support of LGBT rights, said of the campaign. “I have been working for LGBT rights for many years, and I am honored to contribute my musical debut to such a good cause. Music is a universal language. It can engage people’s passion, and that’s when good things happen.”

Well said, Miss Jaitley, and kudos to the UN for this touching message.
